Plaster Skimming
A thin finishing coat that turns boarded or tired surfaces into one even plane. The painter should not be sanding out trowel marks.
The last coat is the one you live with
Skimming is not filling. It is a controlled coat over a sound background, whether that is new plasterboard, a keyed existing wall, or a ceiling that still has life in it.
Price depends on access, height, and how much preparation the surface needs. A photo of the room is usually enough for a written figure. We will not guess a day rate and hope the background behaves.
If the plaster is blown or the boards have moved, a skim on top is wasted money. We say that before you book, not after the first coat is on.

Skimming questions
How much does skimming a wall cost?
It depends on height, how many elevations, and whether the background needs keying or boarding first. Send a photo and we will give you a fixed written price, not a vague square metre guess.
Is ceiling skimming priced the same as walls?
Ceilings take longer and need more protection of the room below. The quote will show that, rather than hiding it in a wall rate.
Can you skim over painted plaster?
If the paint is sound we can key it and skim. Flaking gloss, wallpaper paste or damp need stripping. A skim will not glue failing paint back to the wall.
Do new plasterboard walls still need a skim?
Yes, unless you have specifically asked for a taped-only finish. Joints, screws and board edges show through paint without a proper skim.
How long before I can paint after a skim?
Wait until the plaster has dried through. We confirm the wait on the quote because heating, thickness and time of year all change it.
