The line around the ceiling matters
Cornice is where a room shows its age. Missing lengths, cracked mitres and roses that have been painted into a lump all catch the eye before the walls do.
We restore existing ornamental plaster where it can be saved, and fit new runs where it cannot. Matching a profile is a site job, not an order from a catalogue blindly. We look at the remaining cornice first.
Coving on a new ceiling is simpler, but it still has to sit true. A dipped board line will show in every mitre. That is why cornice work often follows the plastering, not the other way round.

Cornice and coving questions
Can you match existing cornice?
If enough of the profile survives we can repair and run in. If it is gone, we look at the closest stock profile or discuss a restoration approach. A photo of the remaining run is the starting point.
Do you fit ceiling roses?
Yes. Roses are supplied and fitted as part of cornice work, or on their own if the rest of the ceiling is sound.
Is coving the same as cornice?
Coving is usually a simpler, modern profile. Cornice is the ornamental run you see in older rooms. We do both. The quote will name which.
Can cornice stay up during ceiling plastering?
Often yes if it is still keyed. If the ceiling boards are coming down, the cornice usually has to come with them. We price that honestly.
Will the repair show after painting?
The aim is that it does not. New sections are blended into the existing run so the painter is not cutting around a lump of filler.
